The College of Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for Coordinator, K-12 Outreach. This part-time (25 hours a week) Administrative Faculty position is a part of the College of Engineering Outreach and Recruitment team. This position is renewable contingent upon funding. The primary responsibility of the person in this position is to manage the following outreach programs: Summer Engineering Camps: The coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the summer camp program. These week long camps are offered to students ages 12 – 17; they run Mon. – Fri., from 9:00 – 3:00 for 4-6 weeks each summer, usually June – July. Working full time (approx. 40 hours a week) is necessary for 1-2 weeks before and then during camp weeks. Promotion of the camps throughout the spring of each year is needed by: updating and mailing promotional cards to schools, during community and K-12 school events, and by emailing contacts on the distribution list. Promotion to attend the camps can also be done through our ME2L program; our student employees who work for this program can promote the camps in the schools they visit throughout the spring semester. The lesson activities during the camps, need to be planned by the coordinator; through contacting engineering instructors, graduate students, and engineering company representatives to gain their commitment to teach lessons during the camps, plus working with company representatives to plan the camp fieldtrip for each week. Responsible for hiring and training the summer camp staff. Mobile Engineering Education Lab (ME2L): The coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Mobile Engineering Education Lab (ME2L). This involves promoting and scheduling classroom presentations with local principals and teachers; along with hiring, training, and supervising current engineering students who develop and present hands-on engineering/science lessons in K-8 classrooms, and attending lessons with the ME2L students to review their presentations. This position manages the calendar for all scheduled lessons, maintenance of the vans, and inventorying and ordering materials and supplies. Our students encourage the young students to learn more about math and science, along with introducing our engineering majors and the rewarding careers offered to engineers. K12 Outreach Lab: The K12 Lab is an on campus engineering learning facility that provides exciting hands-on lessons in various engineering topics. Each semester a topic specific lesson is taught by engineering students to small groups of students. This involves promoting the K12 lab to community members, hiring and training the students, and managing the lab schedule. This position will be expected to manage the day to day responsibilities of all programs, as well as identify and implement strategies to efficiently increase the reach of the programs. As a part of the Outreach and Recruitment team this position is expected to provide support for all outreach activities (Science Olympiad/MESA Engineering Design Competition, Engineers Day, Innovation Day, Fall Call – to name a few). This position involves managing a budget and tracking the expenses for each program area. Attend staff and faculty meetings, assisting with college events, attending events at schools and in the community, preparing bi-yearly progress reports, providing regular updates, and preparing a presentation for the Mallory Foundation board members.
