The IT Specialist is the first-level technical support contact for all internal team members throughout Cascade, located in our three main offices, satellite offices, and at a variety of remote locations throughout the U.S. The IT Specialist focuses on receiving inbound support requests via phone, email, or by use of our helpdesk. Support issues are resolved using a combination of technical and communication skills to trouble shoot and identify issues. The IT Specialist conducts one-on-one training on various practices and software that we use.

This hourly position is full time, based in our Portland office, and does not require travel.  


This role requires a keen sense of prioritization and comfort level working in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment, with flexibility switching from one IT task to another.

The IT Specialist will contribute to multiple areas of IT, with assigned tasks depending on the volume, needs and capacity of the IT department, including (but not limited to):

  • Provide technical assistant and support, by phone, in-person, and remotely for 100+ users in a wide geographic area, related to computer systems, hardware, or software, and run diagnostic programs to isolate problems
  • Escalate issues, as needed, to the appropriate resource
  • Respond to frequent requests for information
  • Install and support Cascade’s current fleet of laptops and mobile phones
  • Administer existing IT systems, including but not limited to:
    • WDS, WSUS, VoIP, Group Policy, user and computers in AD/DS, Virus protection
  • Knowledgeable and responsive to end-user issues with MS SharePoint
  • Create and enhance standard documentation to assist with technical tasks and recurring issues, and document changes made to existing processes
  • Forward helpdesk requests to other IT members and possibly other teams

In addition to user support and data integration, the IT Specialist is the primary author and custodian of documentation related to technical tasks and recurring issues. As a part of the larger IT team, you may also at times be called on to help out with more general company help desk and IT needs.


We’d like to meet candidates with solid IT experience, and knowledge of IT principles and best practices. The role requires someone who is detail-oriented, exceptionally organized, and able to multi-task across a wide range of projects and tasks.  

  •  General Knowledge of Microsoft technologies including Windows and Office
  •  General knowledge of LAN/WAN systems and networking concepts
  •  Experience working with a helpdesk system is a plus
  •  Effective problem solver
  •  Excellent communication and analytical skills
  •  Ability to grasp new technical concepts quickly, communicates effectively, and has a passion for helping others

To be considered for this position, your resume should also demonstrate:

  • Work experience in a helpdesk or service role
  • Relevant academic and/or technical qualifications (college degree in a technical field or equivalent experience)
