Full time Information Technology

Job Description

Are you interested in being a part of a software project designed to help industrial facilities around the US save energy? Do you like working on a small collaborative team, iterating day-to-day with both users and software developers? Are you comfortable moving between a broad range of tasks from conceptual designs and user feedback sessions to fully specified component level designs?

As our Software Product Designer, you will be working as a part of the development team to ensure that the product backlog and active development tasks are fully supported with detailed mockups. On any given day, you may find yourself assisting with acceptance testing, maintaining design files or providing detailed specifications for items in the product backlog.

You will also be a collaborator with our product team, helping transform feature ideas and requests from internal and external users into fully developed stories and designs. You might find yourself conducting user interviews or focus groups, creating conceptual designs and iterations, or developing wireframes and UX design at the story level. You will help ensure design consistency across the application and proactively identify improvements to existing features as well as specifications for new feature development.

This full-time, exempt position is located in our Portland, Oregon office and reports to the Principal Software Engineer. Travel is not anticipated for this role.

Cascade Energy, founded in 1993, specializes in industrial energy efficiency. Our work reaches throughout the Pacific Northwest and across North America, with clients ranging in size from small up to Fortune 500 companies. We are proud of our reputation for stellar, high quality work. We foster and value a culture of equals, initiative, and ownership. At Cascade Energy, we believe in better. We come to work every day with a drive for continuous improvement and we dedicate ourselves to making industrial energy efficiency happen in smart, measurable, and sustained ways. We are always thinking about new ways to make things happen and achieve results. We offer energy efficiency program design and implementation, energy efficiency engineering, energy management services and software, and hands-on training and coaching.

Our software product, the focus for this position is SENSEI®, a web-based, custom-built Energy Management Collaboration System (EMCS) that helps our employees, clients, and partners visualize and act on live and historical energy data collected, in part, by sensors installed at thousands of sites in the US and Canada.

Our teams are a reflection of our core company values, which are: do the right thing; put others first; seek shared success; learn constantly; and be industrious. Our customers are vitally important to us, and we pride ourselves on stellar customer service. At Cascade we also enjoy a healthy work-life balance with a team that supports each other and puts people first. You can consider yourself a great fit for our team if you love to learn new things, are open-minded and humble, and are excited to work with a group of humble yet high performing peers on an on-going project to help make energy efficiency happen.

For this role, we are seeking well rounded design candidates with experience working on an agile software team. You should have a strong attention to detail in specification and layout, and an understanding of user experience design and flow. Our application has a broad collection of features and as our primary designer you should be comfortable having multiple projects moving concurrently and know how to stay well organized.

Our ideal candidate has experience in web application design, specifically with applications involving form design, task list management, and data visualization – three key elements of the SENSEI application. We are also excited to speak to candidates familiar with the React framework and component-based design.

Our total rewards include competitive pay and excellent benefits. These include health (90% paid for team member, 80% paid for dependents), vision, FSA or HSA options with an employer contribution, life insurance, short and long term disability insurance, 401k retirement plan with both a guaranteed 3% contribution and a profit sharing contribution, annual cash performance bonus, (8) paid holidays per year, paid vacation time, and paid sick time.

To apply, please submit an application via the Careers Page of our website. Applications cannot be considered unless a resume and cover letter (pdf’s please!) describing what about our team or the position resonates with you, and how your experience could make you a great fit for the role, are included. Professional references will be requested from finalists.
