We are currently seeking a Physician Liaison to join our Marketing and Communications team. The successful candidate will develop and maintain strong relationships with designated area providers to drive and sustain alignment with University of Iowa Health Care’s growth strategies and business plans. The physician liaison will positively represent UI Health Care to develop and strengthen hospital system, physician and referral source relationships that contribute to reputation, market position and brand strategy.  The Physician Liaison will be located in Des Moines, Iowa and requires travel within the region with occational trips to Iowa City.

Primary responsibilities

Operational and Financial Management

  • Bring forward new business opportunities identified through field interactions by internal stakeholders
  • Work with leadership to identify area physician issues and clinical needs


Strategic Planning

  • Develop annual plans for physicians using market information, patient utilization data and physician practice trends
  • Ensure plan objectives align with targeted UI Health Care service lines
  • Adapt strategies and plans to optimize provider outcomes
  • Proactively generate and promote new business opportunities and products/services for UI Health Care      

Communication and Outreach

  • Using a mix of communication tools, initiate and maintain contact with area providers
  • In collaboration with leadership, develop targeted messages for area providers
  • Develop customized sales strategies in order to advance relationships with area providers and better partner with them in the care of their patients
  • Communicate trends and barriers between area physician groups and UI Health Care effecting relationships and growth
  • Facilitate introductions between       UI Health Care specialists and area providers, informing them of services, access points, etc.
  • Work with leadership to develop and deliver educational courses for area providers


Quality Improvement

  • Prepare reports summarizing field activities, trends, opportunities and barriers


Leadership and Supervision

  • Serve as a resource for operational and clinical business planning

Marketing Communications, General-Other: Sales-Business Development



Education Requirements

Master’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Health Care or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience


Experience Requirements

3-5 years marketing or sales experience in a health care environment

Demonstrated ability to develop a physician service and information program for a large, complex academic medical center

Strong written, verbal and presentation skills

Proficient in computer software applications

Ability to multi-task and work at a fast pace

Ability to work non-traditional office hours and travel within assigned geographic area

Ability to hold a valid driver’s license and meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standards (University of Iowa Operations Manual Part V, Chapter 19).

Understanding of Health Care clinical practices
