Provides technical support for the Agronomic, Horticultural, Forage, and beef cattle research programs at Edisto REC. Assists in conducting, harvesting and maintaining research and Extension plots. Assists in growing and maintaining agronomic horticulture and forage plots. Maintains research equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.JOB DUTIES
60% - Essential - Research:
Assists core technicians and other members of the farm crew in establishing field research experiments. Plants, applies fertilizer and pesticides, cultivates and harvests crops to support a variety of research programs at Edisto REC.
20% - Essential - Buildings and Ground Maintenance:
Maintains large right of ways and waterways, and mows pastures. Assists with buildings and grounds maintenance as directed by buildings and grounds manager.
20% - Essential - Equipment:
Operates, maintains and repairs field equipment utilized in research programs. Operates large land preparation equipment such as discs, bedders, planters, and harvesters and also small plot equipment for specialized research.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education - A bachelor's degree in animal husbandry, agriculture or a related field and experience in agricultural research or animal care that is directly related to the area of employment. Work experience in animal care or agricultural research may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
Must be capable of getting a category 10 pesticide license in the first year.
