The Associate Development Officer-Corporate and Individual Relations works to establish and facilitate relationships with a wide range of corporate/business and individual donors. The Associate Development Officer will identify the appropriate approach/giving channel for each potential supporter to present a compelling case for support to the Arboretum. The Associate Development Officer in this position must develop strong working relationships internally at the Arboretum to identify programs that would be a good fit for business support. It will also be essential for the person in this role to work closely with the Development Officer for Foundations and Government Relations to coordinate proposals for corporate foundations. In addition, the Associate Development Officer will rely on strategic direction from the Arboretum Director and the Director of Development to ensure contributions to the institution advance the work and priorities of the Arboretum. Overall, this position requires an ability to work successfully both internally and externally to tell the story of the Arboretum. A successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic, a proven ability to effectively manage complex relationships with a number of stakeholders, and strong organizational skills. Responsibilities: 70% - Major and Principal Gifts Development/Corporate Relations• Manages a portfolio of major and leadership gift donors and prospects. Takes timely and strategic steps in moving prospects through the major gift cycle of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Utilizes various giving methods such as current, deferred giving, and non-cash gifts. • Builds and maintains a portfolio of major gift prospects to ensure that timely steps are taken toward solicitation, closure, and stewardship. Performance expectations for this level of gift officer include approximately 10 solicitations per year at $25,000 or more. Total annual gift production expectations for this level of position range from approximately $100,000 to $500,000. • Collaborates with University of Minnesota Foundation (UMF) professionals and utilizes UMF centralized resources to achieve and exceed established standards and metrics for the position. • Strive to build portfolio using networks of corporate partners, MLA Foundation trustees, and community connections as well as prospect research.• Develop a strong understanding of the difference between gifts and sponsorships as outlined in U of M policy.• Solicit gifts and sponsorships from businesses, and gifts from individuals.• Ensure appropriate documentation and processing of pledged and funded gifts and sponsorships.• Meet goals established with Director of Development.• Steward gifts and sponsorships to ensure funds are used in a manner consistent with negotiated agreements .and to retain donors.• Seek networking opportunities with the corporate/business community.• As the primary contact for corporations/businesses, ensure that benefits are delivered and partner goals are met. 30% - Administration:• Files timely contact reports, maintains accurate records and provides updated information both the Arboretum's Raiser's Edge system and UMF's DMS. • Prepare prospect lists, write proposals, gift and sponsorship agreements, and applicable reports, and edit/approve acknowledgment letters.• Identify and research prospective businesses and individuals – engage with development team members to align institutional priorities.• Participate in corporate workgroup meetings for UMF centrally-managed prospects, and coordinate proposals for assigned prospects.
