ASSISTANT COMPTROLLER Lowell, MA The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) is seeking candidates for an Assistant Comptroller who is a strategic leader able to thrive in a not-for-profit organization and can navigate the challenges of a rapidly changing financial landscape. In conjunction with the Comptroller, the candidate will manage the organization's financial affairs, including: budgeting and forecasting to ensure timely and accurate reporting and recorded information; financial analysis; directing financial planning; accounting direction and management; directing the annual audit process; and overseeing all financial policies, procedures, and internal controls. Candidate will assist the Executive Director in the development of the annual budget approved by the NEIWPCC Commission and ensure NEIWPCC adherence to applicable best practices and compliance with laws and regulations of various regulatory bodies, including the IRS, GAAP, and the various states and other monitoring organizations. Work with Comptroller to learn all aspects of the Fiscal Department, with the potential for advancement into the Comptroller role in one to two years. Working with the Comptroller, the Assistant Comptroller will analyze and report on the organization’s finances to the Treasurer, the senior staff leadership, and Executive Committee and Commissioners, as appropriate, and assist in the leadership of the financial management staff. S/he will educate colleagues and build capabilities among the staff to understand their accountability for budgets. Will collaborate across the senior team to proactively share information and provide a financial lens to others' efforts. Will provide financial leadership to and negotiation assistance with complex contracts and grants. Competencies required are the ability to translate complex financial reports, concepts, and goals to individuals at all levels, including financial and non-financial audiences; accomplished written and verbal communication skills; sound judgement and resourcefulness in developing people, processes, and systems; and a combination of cultural sensitivity and emotional intelligence, along with an unpretentious style that will enable them to fit into this collaborative, team oriented organization.
